What is Cade?

Keder consists of two parts: core and fabric. The core is made of extruded PVC or other elastic material to provide flexibility. The core is then wrapped in keder fabric which has exposed fibers on the outside allowing the keder to slide easily into the extrusion with pleated grooves - the keder track. It is coated on the inside to ensure proper adhesion during soldering. For maximum strength, a double-coated Keder can be used

How is the keder welded to the fabric?

The method of welding the keder to the fabric depends on the style used. Double-wing sewing machines are generally welded by radio frequency welding machines, because three layers of fabric are welded at the same time. However, a single-lobed keder can be welded using a wedge welder or a hot air welder, requiring only a simple lap weld. Keder can also be sewn onto fabric.

How do I know which size Keder to choose?

If you are replacing the keder for your current project, please measure the diameter of your current PVC wire. For new keder projects, look at the rail/frame system the keder will slide into. Make sure to order a keder that is slightly smaller than the channel diameter. We will be happy to assist you in your selection.

Single flap, double flap, prosthetic flap or welded flap? How do I know which style of keder to use?

There really is no "right" answer to this, it's a personal choice based on your project. However, we recommend using specific styles for certain applications.

Single Flap Keder - For the awning, banner and canopy industry, unless the keder will be continuously exposed to the outdoor elements, we recommend the Double Flap Keder for extra protection.

Double Flap Keder – Tents and Structures, Industrial Drapes, Pool Covers, Tarpaulins and Trampoline Industries.
