Insulating glass is traditionally used in office buildings, hospitals, hotels, residences and those buildings that require significant heating or cooling. Where humidity and temperature control is required, insulating glass is best suited for them.

1. The most exciting buildings built today are energy efficient, environmentally friendly and completely green. Insulating glass units with Low-E coating (commonly known as IGU or IG units) have become the first choice for modern buildings. It is no longer just a shelter from wind and rain, but more importantly, it integrates multiple functions such as heat preservation, energy saving, art, quietness, and safety. Provide people with four seasons, energy saving, environmental protection, bright and comfortable living space. The energy-saving characteristics of Low-E IGU are mainly reflected in the heat insulation performance. The main metrics are the shading coefficient (SC) or solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), and the thermal conductivity (U-value). 2. Insulating glass consists of two or more sheets of glass, sealed at the edges and with an air space in between, to form a unit. Low-E coatings that cannot be exposed and therefore cannot be used with single panes of glass can be used inside insulating units where they are protected by an airtight space.

Glass – Glass in an IGU is used to provide natural light and maintain internal temperature conditions and protection from external conditions. Spacer Bars - Glass panels in an IGU are separated by "spacer bars". Gaskets exist in a variety of materials, each of which has an impact on the performance of the IGU. They are usually made of aluminum or an insulating plastic composite called a warm edge spacer. Warm edge spacers get their name because they are more insulating and less conductive than aluminum spacers. Currently available materials are aluminium, steel, stainless steel, thermoplastics and plastics. Inflation - To improve IGU performance, inflation is an option offered by the manufacturer. Inert gases such as argon and krypton are used to replace the air in the inner cavity of the device. Sealant - The sealant is applied to the construction of the IGU in two stages. The primary seal is used to secure the glass panels to the spacers and the secondary seal is used to seal the outer edges of the entire unit. The purpose of the sealant is to prevent moisture from penetrating the device. Primary sealants are often used in combination with aluminum spacers to act as a barrier to heat transfer between the two glass panels touching it. Warm edge spacers are typically used with self-adhesive primary seals and due to their material construction are already far less conductive than their metal alternatives. A secondary seal (outer seal) is always required when building an IGU. It provides structural strength to the IGU edges. Secondary sealants typically come in the following forms; hot melt butyl rubber, two part polysulfide, two part polyurethane and silicone.
