2. Typical UV lamp structure
Treatment Methods and Lighting StylesThe UV wavelengths most suitable for curing inks are between 200 and 400 nanometers. Several types of lamps are suitable for producing these wavelengths, mainly high-pressure mercury arc lamps, electrodeless lamps, and medium-pressure mercury arc lamps. High pressure mercury arc lamps are usually constructed of the capillary type and require a water jacket to maintain the correct operating temperature. These lamps are limited to short lengths and lamp life is typically less than 1,000 hours.
As the name implies, electrodeless mercury arc lamps have no electrodes. The arc is established by the generation of microwaves. 4. Lamp life
Medium pressure mercury arc lamps generally do not fail suddenly like ordinary household light bulbs. Efficiency drops relatively slowly until insufficient UV light is emitted for the lamp to cure effectively.
