Laminated glass is a construction in which two sheets of glass are bonded together with an adhesive material, usually polyvinyl butanol (PVB). This invisible PVB layer is designed to keep the glass integral to the structure when it breaks, rather than shattering the glass into large, sharp and dangerous shards. PVB also dulls the edges of glass shards, significantly reducing the risk of injury. After a series of heating and pressing, two pieces of glass and PVB interlayer become a strong and durable glass structure.
